Ground-breaking ceremony kicks off construction for Rideau Registry residences

December 06, 2022
The historic Registry Office is integrated into the podium, allowing the richness of the historic building to be showcased as a defining element of the public realm.

We’re thrilled to celebrate the ground-breaking of the Rideau Registry residences, a 288-unit purpose-built rental residential project for Cadillac Fairview. The design connects to the CF Rideau Centre, creating a more vibrant edge to Ottawa’s largest shopping mall.

Formerly an underutilized property, the redevelopment intensifies the site and in doing so creates an improved pedestrian environment. One of the key elements toward reorganizing the site is the relocation of the former City Registry Office, a designated heritage property built in 1874. The structure is preserved and adapted, incorporating it as part of the glazed podium complete with a café-bistro and enhanced entrance to the shopping centre.

For over 40 years, Zeidler has been collaborating with Cadillac Fairview (CF) on numerous transformative projects across Canada. The Rideau Registry, CF’s first residential rental development in Canada, reflects our mutual values in cultivating vibrant urban places through modern, sustainable, and accessible designs.
