We are currently seeking an Intermediate Architect to join our Calgary Studio. The ideal candidate brings strong design skills, a solid understanding of project coordination, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced, in-office environment.

Job Summary

The Intermediate Architectural Professional plays a key role in supporting and leading the design and delivery of architectural projects through all phases—from pre-design through construction administration. Working under the supervision of senior staff or the Partner in Charge, this role contributes to design excellence, technical quality, and effective project execution. It requires a well-rounded understanding of building systems, project coordination, and client engagement. The role is based fully in-office to foster direct team collaboration and strong cross-functional coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead or support the successful execution of projects across all design phases, ensuring deliverables meet quality standards and project timelines
  • Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of project budgets, schedules, and work plans.
  • Actively engage in design development, consultant coordination, and client communication throughout the duration of the project.
  • Serve as Project Manager or support senior staff in the management of scope, schedule, team deliverables, budgets, and communication, following established firm processes.
  • Support or lead preparation of proposals, fee estimates, and responses to RFPs.
  • Participate in contract review meetings and assist with risk identification and mitigation planning.

Design + Documentation

  • Participate in and support the creation of conceptual and schematic design ideas with strong graphic and presentation skills.
  • Lead or assist with the development of contract drawings and specifications, ensuring compliance with office standards, development bylaws, and applicable building codes.
  • Coordinate submission drawings for authority approvals and contribute to tender documentation packages.
  • Ensure technical quality and accuracy in design and construction documentation using Revit and CAD.
  • Support quality control efforts and internal design review processes.

Project Support + Coordination

  • Prepare and manage project documentation including meeting minutes, transmittals, and authority applications.
  • Maintain project filing systems to organize related information and correspondence.
  • Coordinate with consultants, internal teams, and municipal authorities throughout the project lifecycle. 
  • Assist with or manage project scheduling, resource planning, and milestone tracking using project management software.
  • Working with Senior staff, assist with or manage RAIC contracts and/or fee proposals
  • Ensure all work aligns with the firm’s Project Delivery standards, including proper use of filing systems, adherence to architectural procedures, and compliance with drawing and documentation protocols.

Team + Culture

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior staff, especially during early design phases.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Architecture or a related design discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • 5–10 years of professional experience in an architectural firm.
  • Registered with or actively pursuing registration with a Canadian architectural association (OAA, AAA, AIBC, etc.).
  • Strong conceptual design skills including freehand sketching, 3D modeling, and graphic presentation.
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD required; knowledge of project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Deltek Vantagepoint) is an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local construction systems, detailing, and building codes.
  • Experience with local municipal approvals and permitting processes.
  • Proven experience managing projects with direct client engagement and coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage design fees, including budgeting and monitoring profitability.
  • Experience in staffing planning, task allocation, and team coordination across project phases.
  • Strong understanding of scope management, scheduling, and budget adherence.
  • LEED® AP, Passive House Designer, or other sustainability accreditations preferred.

Intermediate Architectural Technologist

Job Summary

The Intermediate Architectural Technologist is responsible for leading the preparation of detailed design and construction documentation while coordinating with internal and external teams. This role builds on foundational technical knowledge and contributes to project delivery across various building types and project phases.

Key Responsibilities

Design + Documentation

  • Lead and produce drawing sets for permit and construction documentation using Revit.
  • Review and contribute to the accuracy and quality of technical drawings and coordination.
  • Perform building code analyses and prepares compliance reports.
  • Conduct research on products, materials, and systems to inform technical detailing.

Project Support + Coordination

  • Report on project progress to the Project Manager or Job Captain.
  • Coordinate input from subconsultants under guidance from senior staff.
  • Liaise with clients and municipal authorities as requested.
  • Support submission processes for municipal approvals.
  • Ensure all work aligns with the firm’s Project Delivery standards, including proper use of filing systems, adherence to architectural procedures, and compliance with drawing and documentation protocols.

Team + Culture

  • Provide guidance to junior team members and support their technical growth.

  • Maintain compliance with internal QA/QC, project filing, and documentation standards.

Qualifications

  • Architectural Technologist Diploma or related discipline from a recognized institution.

Job Summary

The Proposals Specialist plays a central role in preparing proposals and marketing materials to support business development efforts. Collaborating closely with the national marketing team, leadership, and design staff, this role helps to position the firm for growth across Canada.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy + Collaboration

  • Work with partners, principals, and project teams to respond to RFQs, RFPs, and EOIs
  • Contribute to the strategic positioning of pursuits, including content planning and team coordination.

Content Development

  • Develop, write, and design high-quality, competitive proposals in response to RFPs.
  • Ensure compliance, clarity, consistency, and brand alignment across all submissions.
  • Support proposal strategy and content development, including project narratives and team info.
  • Maintain and update collateral databases (project profiles, CVs, narratives and other marketing materials).
  • Conduct bid research and support opportunity tracking.
  • Assist with peer reviews and other team initiatives as needed.

Coordination + Execution

  • Coordinate proposal production, including gathering inputs from consultants and internal teams, reviewing content, and ensuring deadlines are met
  • Ensure data accuracy in marketing databases and oversee quality control of submissions.
  • Ensure all work aligns with the firm’s Project Delivery standards, including proper use of filing systems, adherence to architectural procedures, and compliance with drawing and documentation protocols.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in marketing, communications, architecture, or related field

Job Summary

The Architectural Specifications Writer is a technical and strategic contributor responsible for developing and maintaining high-quality, standardized specifications that support excellence in project delivery across all Zeidler studios. This role guides teams through all project phases, ensuring specifications reflect current industry standards, sustainable practices, and client requirements. The position requires deep knowledge of materials, codes, and procurement practices, and plays an essential mentorship role in promoting consistency, quality, and innovation across the firm.

Key Responsibilities

Design + Documentation

  • Develop and maintain up-to-date, firmwide master specifications tailored to project types and aligned with current industry and sustainability standards.
  • Author, review, and coordinate project-specific specifications from schematic design through construction documentation.
  • Research and implement innovative, high-performing, and sustainable materials and systems in coordination with design teams.
  • Ensure all specifications comply with applicable codes, contract requirements, and firm QA/QC standards.
  • Create and manage spec development schedule to meet multiple demands for various project simultaneously.

Project Support + Coordination

  • Guide project teams in the integration of specifications throughout all project phases to support design integrity and technical excellence.
  • Support the development of design briefs to ensure alignment between client vision, performance objectives, and material systems.
  • Participate in pre-tender reviews and assist in construction administration tasks including RFI responses, submittals, and change documentation to ensure adherence to specifications.
