One Market provides cultural resource to Laurier campus and downtown Brantford

The proposed lobby space includes a box office and cafe. The rendering shows an art wall with various large-scale paintings.

Plans unveiled at an open house showcased the vision to transform a former downtown shopping mall into a community hub for Wilfrid Laurier University.

Laurier is undertaking their most ambitious adaptive reuse project to date with the revitalization of the 300,000 square foot One Market building located in downtown Brantford. The former mall will be transformed into a destination for arts, culture, dining, and entertainment.

Zeidler was selected by Laurier to design the cultural hub which transforms the former cinema spaces within One Market into a gallery, arthouse movie theatre and 250-seat performing arts theatre. The hub will support Brantford’s arts ecosystem, bringing a much-needed mid-sized performance space to the community.

The vision for space is to offer a diverse range of live programming and film that is accessible to all. The proposed performance theatre moves away from the traditional western centric proscenium parti, encouraging and supporting Indigenous art and performance.
