Block 2 redevelopment design concept unveiledApril 12, 2022
Our design competition entry for the Block 2 redevelopment was unveiled at a live public presentation on April 11.
For the first time, all six finalist teams have been revealed. Since the competition launched in the spring of 2021 the submissions have all been on an anonymous basis for the jury. Our concept was presented by:
- David Chipperfield, David Chipperfield Architects
- Matthew Hickey, Two Row Architect
- Julia Gersovitz, EVOQ Architecture
- David Richards, Aterlier Ten
- Richard Marks, David Chipperfield Architects
- Vaidila Banelis, Zeidler Architecture
Our vision for the redevelopment of Block 2 within Ottawa’s Parliamentary Precinct draws on the strengths of old and new. It acknowledges Canada’s charged history, as expressed in its heritage buildings, and forges a new architectural language that seeks not to erase the past, but to reconcile it with new technology and Indigenous practice; moving forward sustainably and with fresh purpose. Our proposal weaves together past, present and future to create a tapestry of forms and styles that celebrates a diverse nation and suggests a sustainable and inclusive future for Canadian democracy. The jury will make their final decision in Ottawa at the end of April. Public Services and Procurement Canada is accepting feedback on the six design schemes until April 19 through email at [email protected].
