Zeidler and DCA reach a significant milestone in Block 2 redevelopment
May 15, 2023Zeidler Architecture Inc. in association with David Chipperfield Architects set to transform Canada’s Parliamentary Precinct with Block 2 redevelopment project.
Last year Zeidler and David Chipperfield Architects’ won an international design competition for the reimaging of Block 2 of Canada’s Parliamentary Precinct in Ottawa. We recently achieved another significant milestone having been awarded the contract for architectural and engineering services signifying the mutual commitment between Zeidler, DCA and the Government of Canada to drive the project forward.
This signals the start of the transformation of Block 2 into a modern, sustainable and vibrant city block. The project will meet the needs of parliamentarians and the public in a way that respects our past while also embracing our future, bringing a new vitality to a significant part of the Parliamentary Precinct and the city, and reaffirming a commitment to architectural excellence and greening initiatives. We acknowledge Canada’s charged history, as expressed in its heritage buildings. From this, we forge a new architectural language that seeks not to erase the past, but to reconcile it with new technology and inspiring Indigenous practice; moving forward sustainably and with fresh purpose, to demonstrate the best that Canada can be.
The reimagined block will accommodate the offices of the Senate and the House of Commons while facilitating the future consolidation of parliamentary accommodations. Historical structures will be preserved, converted and woven together with new low-carbon, efficient buildings to create a diverse yet coherent whole.
As progress continues, the transformation of Block 2 will serve as a testament to our dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to shaping the urban landscape for the better.
