Design Thinking: Located beneath our award-winning Student Learning Centre, this purpose-built space features 17,400 square feet of modern and accessible performance, learning and related production facilities. We worked collaboratively with multiple user groups including students and faculty members to ensure the new facility reflects Ryerson’s commitment to excellence in performing arts and culture. The design features sprung-floor dance studios, a flexible 75-seat black box theatre with a sound and lighting booth, production and teaching wardrobe areas, a lighting and sound lab, and a street-level box office.

Key Features: The project involved bisecting the existing double-height space and adding a mezzanine level for inclusive access to the performance control booth. With a complex program and a limited area, the vertical space was carefully considered to meet the minimum clearances required for the studios, including the creative use of interstitial spaces to house equipment.
