The project was executed in two phases within a two-year timeline. The first phase totalled a full renovation of 32 classrooms across the university’s Keele and Glendon campuses, and the subsequent completion of 23 classrooms during the second phase. The classrooms, ranging from tiered lecture halls to flexible seminar rooms, were designed to facilitate a variety of teaching and learning styles that stimulate visual interest without distraction.
The renovations include updated HVAC, electrical infrastructure, integrated state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment, furniture, hardware and finishes, including the addition of new LED lighting and energy efficient water fixtures that achieve LEED Gold standards. The classrooms have been designed to the highest accessibility and sustainability standards, not only to withstand the high foot traffic associated with a leading Toronto university campus, but also to ensure that these spaces are inclusive and equipped to serve future generations of students and scholars.
