Zeidler Architecture, in partnership with David Chipperfield Architects’ London studio, have pre-qualified for the Block 2 design competition.

Part of Ottawa’s Parliamentary Precinct, Block 2 is located between Wellington, Sparks, O’Connor, and Metcalfe streets. Directly south of the Parliament’s Centre Block, the site is now home to a collection of buildings that date from various eras and includes many heritage buildings. The design competition seeks to revitalize this block to house government offices, as well as make it more accessible, safe, and more open to members of the public. A primary goal of the project is to bring the precinct to modern standards, with a design that will help infill current development and tie existing structures together. With the RAIC supporting the competition process, the jury is made up design professionals, members of Canadian Academia and Civil Society.

“We’re excited to be working with Chipperfield, whose portfolio of beautifully detailed projects within sensitive cultural heritage contexts is a perfect fit for this site in our nation’s capital,” says Vaidila Banelis, Senior Partner at Zeidler Architecture. “Our mutual admiration of each firm’s work and history brought us together to collaborate in realizing the highest aspirations of the Block 2 redevelopment for Canada,” says Edward Chan, Partner.

More information about the competition can be found here, with the full list of pre-qualified teams here.
