What we are seeking

Zeidler is seeking to hire a Senior Interior Designer with strong commercial experience and a proven track record of success. You will be proficient managing personal project level work with greater complexity and less supervision. Having the ability to share design/ technical ideas, communicate ideas clearly, develop models and present unique design/ technical solutions, is essential. With increasing seniority, an Intermediate Interior Designer, will become greater people managers, managing small project teams and supporting junior staff through teaching and giving effective feedback. 

To be successful in this role, you will be able to communicate well with clients and other professionals, work effectively in a team setting and readily adapt, as changes need to be made. 

Project

  • Take a strong role in the creation of designs including conception and development including preparing high quality design details and specifications 
  • Supervises the preparation of preliminary plans and detailed drawings for highly complex interior projects
  • Develops design concepts and translates them into design documents during project phases
  • Develop space/furnishing plans, design details and finish selections to support conceptual design 
  • Collaborates on client presentations and presents design concepts and drawings 
  • Provides instruction on specific design objectives, complex features and solutions 
  • Provides direction in team meetings to ensure continuity of design intent 
  • Attends site meetings, performs shop drawing review and contract administrative support as required 
  • Works primarily with the Interiors team and occasionally with the Architectural teams as required

Team

  • Mentor and coach teams and individuals to develop their skills/ capacities and reach their potential
  • Lead by effective communication, enabling channels of communication, providing effective feedback and being approachable/ supportive
  • Support Principals in the preparation and conducting of employee performance reviews
  • Oversee project staffing and sets objectives and expectations for the team
  • Responsible for managing direct reports to ensure work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Reviews and approves direct reports’ timesheet

Firm

  • Represent the firm in the industry to advance the company’s interest and profile
  • Build the culture by role modeling the values of the organization
  • Contribute to the development of proposals and business development for the studio
  • Contribute to maintaining and improving strong policies, procedures and systems for the studio 
  • Maintain strong presence in the professional association

What You Will Bring 

  • 5+ years of experience as an Interior Designer, ideally with experience in a variety of building types including commercial, multi-family residential, institutional, and retail
  • Interior Design Technologist Diploma/Architectural Technologist Diploma or related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Registered Interior Designer license
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD
  • InDesign, 3D rendering and SketchUp skills an asset
  • Proficiency in Alberta & British Columbia Building Code and associated bylaws
  • LEED® AP, WELL AP or knowledge of LEED and WELL Standards considered an asset
  • Strong conceptual and design skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Interior Design process, programming, planning, materials, creative detailing, specifications, and building systems
  • Experience in coordinating project teams
