What we are seeking

As we continue to grow our national practice, we are seeking an experienced, reliable and driven Project Accountant to join our team. This role requires you to work from our Downtown Calgary office. 
As Project Accountant, you will report to the Accounting Manager and work closely with the accounting team on all project accounting functions. This is an ideal opportunity for you to learn and grow within an established team who offer a collaborative and fun environment, in addition to growth and progression opportunities.

This is a temporary contract for 12 months. Your duties will include:

  • Effectively communicating with staff on Timesheets – coding, comments, overtime, spelling, grammar, accuracy of phases and activities
  • Determining project chargeable as well as data update in the system.
  • Conducting collection follow-up (phone/email) – A/R management maintaining an acceptable level of aging across assigned projects.
  • Cash receipts – daily input of AR Receipts including EFTS and checks, bank deposits
  • Reconciling several financial documents, statements and process varied transactions for expenses, preparation of routine or standard reports.
  • Performing ad hoc  duties – various client requests (i.e. statements, copies, adjustments, etc.)
  • Vendor invoices full accounts payable cycle – obtaining authorizations, coding and computer input.
  • System Maintenance – vendor updates
  • Filing – A/P checks and expenses
  • Cross-training in financial accounting functions, bank reconciliations and general ledger account analysis, to act as backup to other accounting staff.
  • Performing additional assignments, as directed by the Team Lead

You are responsible for identifying and reporting potential hazards, contributing to a safe working environment, and ensuring compliance with regulations. What you will bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or an Advanced Accounting Diploma.
  • Sufficiently conversant with the use of computer; skilled in performing mathematical processes; and an outstanding knowledge of utilizing accounting software, as well as other basics.
  • 2+ years of experience in a Project Accounting role, with experience in an architectural/engineering or other professional services firm considered an asset
  • Commendable skills in general bookkeeping procedures or principles
  • Knowledge of Deltek Vision or Deltek Ajera Software or other fully integrated project accounting platform, a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast paced and constantly evolving environment.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team, take initiative, set tasks and see projects through to completion
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong team skills.
  • Consistent and highly organized
  • This position may require the ability to travel as needed. Travel may include visiting client sites, attending meetings, participating in training sessions, and representing the company at industry events
