What we are seeking
Zeidler Architecture is currently looking for an Intermediate/Senior Contract Administrator to work remotely out of Kelowna. To be considered for this role, you will be an Architect/ Technologist with extensive dedicated experience in CA. As the Contract Administrator, you will be directly responsible for the comprehensive and timely administration of all project related documentation and information during the construction phase. You will represent the Architect in all construction project meetings and other field matters, relating to the construction of the project. Duties include:
- Working collaboratively with our national studio teams
- Leading construction administration in the local office and being aware of all current local construction contracts and administrative procedures
- Exhibiting a complete understanding and practice of relevant office administration procedures including the creation of project documentation: review of minutes of meetings from contractors, transmittal of project material, applications to authorities, etc. and filing systems as is required to assist in the organization of all related project information and correspondence
- Conducting construction field observations for site visits during construction
- Ensuring work is proceeding in accordance with Contract Documents, bringing any non-conforming work to the attention of the contractor and PM/Partner-In-Charge
- Producing and distributing supplemental drawings, specifications, and interpretations in response to requests for clarification by contractors/owners
- Providing final review for shop drawings and preparing change orders, RFls, site meeting minutes, application for payment and project closeout services, as required
- Attending meetings with clients and/or consultants, as required
- Supporting the team with internal and external communications during the construction process
- Working with the design and CD team to achieve objectives, resolve issues and ensuring final project success as measured by client satisfaction, profitability, quality and timeliness
- Assisting in the preparation of drawing packages for various permit submissions and/or construction
- Coordinating consultant teams through construction phase
- Reviewing any new drawings for consultant coordination and compliance with local Building Codes and City Bylaw requirements prior to submission. Reviewing and understanding the IFC documents
- Coordinating project Tendering as required to move to PM

What you will bring
- Successful completion of an Architectural Technologist Diploma from a recognized institution or CSC certification / training
- Minimum of 5 years of full time experience in the production of contract documents, contract administration or direct construction experience
- Curious, energetic and driven to perform effectively in a demanding high growth, fast paced environment
- Local and Canadian experience in different building typologies (particularly multi-family residential) building types is considered an asset
- Strong understanding of both non-combustible and combustible building systems preferred. Strong knowledge of building code required
- Strong negotiation skills, leadership ability working with construction site personnel and ability to manage multiple projects
- High proficiency and experience with Building code, specification, building science and construction contract proficiency as well as proficient knowledge of contract administration forms and procedures.
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD an asset
- Completion of green building initiatives and programs is an asset, as is familiarity with BC Step Code, National Energy Code for Buildings, and familiarity with CA impacts on Energy Reports / Models
- Candidate should hold a class 5 driver’s license without restrictions
- Good understanding of timelines required for revision / review
- Act in a way to protect the interests (legal) of the firm – not taking on liability without involving partner or Senior CA
- Ability to understand contract scope and communicate when potential additional fees may need to be discussed
- This position may require the ability to travel as needed. Travel may include visiting client sites, attending meetings, participating in training sessions, and representing the company at industry events.
