Mackenzie Health, Richmond Hill Hospital

Richmond Hill, Ontario

Client: Mackenzie Health
Size: 1,200,000 sq.ft. (111,000 sq.m.)

As part of a major regional health system, the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital (MVH) is one of Infrastructure Ontario’s priority projects, being delivered through a long-term Design Build Finance and Maintain arrangement. Zeidler completed the Stage 2 MOHLTC submission for MVH, and is currently providing Planning Design and Compliance services.

Located on a 50-acre greenfield site at Major Mackenzie Drive on the east side of Highway 400 at Jane Street, the new 11-storey hospital will provide comprehensive acute care services, including 24/7 Emergency services, medical/surgical and critical care beds, integrated stroke program inpatient services, obstetrics and pediatrics, peri-operative services diagnostics services, including interventional radiology and mental health services.

Zeidler implemented innovative design concepts in the Project Specific Output Specifications (PSOS) documents, including: innovative one-way flow surgical suites; supplies at point-of-care through the provision of a “nurse server,” where daily supplies are located as close to the patient as possible for ease of care; and 80% single bedrooms with private washrooms and natural light. Our site design further emphasizes the integration of outdoor and indoor space to achieve a holistic therapeutic environment.

Stage 2 was submitted in 2013 for Provincial approval. Zeidler worked with the Hospital to develop the Illustrative Design and the required PSOS documents. Oversight and compliance review on the submissions of the proponent teams was completed following the RFP open period. After Financial Close in 2016, Zeidler will monitor the Design Development and Construction Documents process and
provide coordination services throughout the construction phase.
