Located on a 36-hectare site, this project involved construction of a 1,230-bed maximum security facility providing housing for male and female inmates. Also included are correctional program areas, full medical facilities, a linked facility for building services, a central plant and a linked warehouse, for an approximate total of 458,000 square feet of new space.
The thirteen buildings consist of six men’s maximum security housing pods, and one female housing area with both maximum and medium security cells. A typical male housing pod consists of six day rooms each with sixteen cells. The pod is arranged in an octagonal configuration with the remaining two wings being an exterior recreation yard and a larger program area. This houses various multi-purpose rooms arts and crafts rooms, computer rooms as well as a variety of offices and interview rooms. A control room at the centre of each pod monitors the activities of all inmates and controls all traffic ow. There are two buildings for male and female admitting and discharge as well as a building that contains both the medical and dental facilities and the segregation wing.
